Richard W. Sager Named CEO of Williams Advanced Materials Inc.BUFFALO, New York - January 23, 2004 - Williams Advanced Materials Inc. (WAM) announced today that it has completed the earlier-announced succession of its top leadership. On January 1, 2004, WAM President and Chief Operating Officer Richard (Dick) W. Sager assumed the duties of Chief Executive Officer, succeeding John (Jack) Paschall, who has retired as WAM Chairman and CEO.
Mr. Sager joined WAM's parent company, Brush Engineered Materials Inc., in 1989 as Director of Sales with responsibility for sales of WAM and two other Brush operating companies. In 1992 he was promoted to Vice President, Sales & Marketing for WAM. In that position he led Williams' successful commercial efforts to broaden its product range and expand internationally. In March 1997 he advanced to WAM general management with the appointment to Executive Vice President. In September 2001, Mr. Sager was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer for WAM.
Commenting on the succession, Gordon D. Harnett, Chairman, President and CEO of Brush Engineered Materials, said, "Dick's past success as WAM President, along with his extensive knowledge and commitment to the business makes him highly qualified to assume the duties of CEO. Prior to joining Williams, Mr. Sager was Vice President, Sales & Marketing, and a partner with Advanced Materials Technology, Inc., which was acquired by Brush Engineered Materials in 1989 and ultimately combined with the company's Williams Gold Refining Company, Inc. subsidiary to form WAM.
He has a bachelor of science degree in business administration/marketing from Empire State College and an MBA in marketing from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
